Most screw compressors never really unload in the term like a recip can do. They may throttle back to say 50% and float between this and 100%. Some of the newer Screw Compressors are designed to be two stage and can be scaled back to some degree and save money on KW to run. But that is a hole new unit. Best way to save money with compressed air is to fix all of the air leaks in the facility. Compressed air is the most costly and least understood utility we use.

Install a VFD for your compressor motor and thro a PID logic set the required pressure as input feedback to the VFD. Then you may remove your Load/Unload solenoids. The motor speed & power will be optimised by the VFD with respect to the required presuure.
