Generator Parameters

01/16/2011 7:28 PM

Hi all, im trying to spec this generator, looking at the datasheet for it, Xd (synchronous unsaturated reactance) is missing. I'm modelling the generator on SKM, and it has Xd as a per unit input which it links with the base kVA and voltage of the generator. Shouldn't Xd=1 pu? Since Xd is the steady state unsatured reactance which is computed from the base kVA, base voltage and hence base current?

My assumption was wrong, S=V^2/Z, where S=rated kVA, V=rated voltage, Z=Load+Xd (load = load placed on generator terminals to draw S(rated))

Here's what I've found with LV generators. Using the default values makes almost no difference in using manufacturer's s.c. data. I deal alot with regulatory bodies such as ABS, USCG, DNV, BV, and on & on where most use 10 time the aggregate generators connected and 3-4 times the total motor loads. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
