Butt weld.

01/17/2011 11:48 PM

Hi,

Really, I couldn't find any measurement for the protrude of material when you do bevel welding - half bevel (1/2 V). That is the normal bevel welding (no concave, no convex), and when finishing the welding, it must have a little welding material protrude out the groove. In some cases, we need to know the height/length of the protruded metal.

Could you give me some tracks to find out, pls. Thank you very much!

Go here and read this.

http://www.watersmart.com/media/WTDS_WSE_Publication_No._0190_Welding_Manual.pdf

You will find that the "R" (Reinforcement) is that little bump of weld metal above the flat surface of the pipe wall shall not exceed 1/8"

Hi,

If for pipeline you may refer to API 1104 - 7.8.2

the reinforcement (weld cap) should not be more than 1/16" (1.6mm)
