Impact of 40ka Busbar Connected to 50ka Busbar

We have a bus & connected switchgears are of 40ka rating. We want to connect it to a bus & equipments of 50 ka ratingthrough a 400kv transmission line of 5kms. Is it safe, if not what impact it shall have on weaker equipments, & what preventive measures should be taken prior to connecting them. Should we use differential protection or distance protection scheme for a small transmission line of 5kms on 400 kv double circuit transmission line in India

400kV is outside of my field, but in general busbar ratings have to do with fault bracing. So if you have bus braced for 50kA and you connect bus that is rated for 40kA, your overall rating gets downgraded to 40kA. Have you determined what your available fault current is? That would be the very first step.

You need to determine what the available fault current at the bus. Just because the bus has a rating of 50 ka does not mean anything. The actual fault current will determine if the 40 ka bus can be used.
