ETAP Software (Magnetic Contactor Interrupting Rating)

01/22/2011 12:27 AM
I am not clear how to solve the matter of contactor rating in ETAP software

The parameters required for contactor in coordination study are attached.

I get the NEMA type contactor Drop out time but interrupting rating still I don't found neither on contactor physically nor from Cutler Hammer and NEMA standard sheet. I assumed the interrupting rating defined in ETAP is the Breaking current of the Contactor. Have you any list that assists for Breaking current of Size 00.... to Size 5 Contactor.

Good luck here, since you did not get what you wanted on the other post. i am also eager to learn more about software solutions to what was only possible by testing in high-power labs at great expense of money, time and other resources.

i am, at the age of 66 years, understandably skeptical. If one could design software that could predict arc-quenching behaviour of circuit breakers reliably, why would we need all those expensive test stations, and the cost and time that needs to be devoted to that ?

i am not speaking in air. i was in the task force to develop such a software for GE in the period 1998-2001. Did my bit to develop the database to back that software. However, GE have not published that software, which should tell you something.

ETAP is, of course, a well-respected software. i am very, very interested in understanding how it considers the Conatctor's max current capacity wrt the current-limiting ability of the MCCB/Fuse that is going to clear the SC before the contactor even knows that there is a SC.

Good Luck.
