Diesel Engine Idle Speed

01/24/2011 6:44 AM

Hi gents, hope every one is ok!

Would you please help me?

I am installing genset controller which will start the genset when the mains power fails.

This controller has idle function for the engine, so I am planing to fit 12vdc solenoid to move the engine accelerator lever to make the engine speed on idle first for 5 minutes then this solenoid will be switched off and the accelerator will be moved back by returning spring so the engine will go to full speed. This solenoid will get the supply from the controller.

My question is, the engine normal speed is 1500 RPM, so how much the idle speed should be so i can adjust the accelerator lever on idle state?

Why does it matter what the figure is? I would adjust it to the minimum rpm the engine is happy with.

In any case, there's not enough data to make a suggestion. What is the output? The bigger the system, the lower the idle rpm is likely to be. Is it petrol or diesel? But as a rough guess, I'd say something like 700 - 800 rpm.

Cheers.........Codey

for emergency genset ,similar to your case. no need to run under idle speed . it's designed to start under full speed and carry up full load within some few seconds.
this to avoid Power outages for long time (warming up time).

ِAlso 5 minutes under idle speed is not enough to warm up engine, while it's too long to stay without power, specially for critical places like hospitals, airports---etc.
water or oil heaters are installed to these gensets to keep engine permanently warm and Instantaneously start under full load

At 1500 normal RPM the idle speed must be 800RPM.Blow this rpm engine may stop.
