Use of Inverter in Poultry House

01/24/2011 7:19 AM

Sir,

I am new in the field of mechanical engineering. Recently I have installed 'Chain feeding system in a breeder farm' . I connected inverter with the 3 phase motor via overload switches. Now the system is working but I could not attain maximum chain speed.Motor frequency reaches up to 20 Hz where the maximum is 50Hz.

Now my questions are-

Do I need to use the overload switch at all or I can give motor connection direct to inverter?

How can I reach the maximum chain speed.

Kind regards,

Khaled

Remove the overloads, if set correctly the inverter will protect the motor. As to the speed either you need to sit down and read the manual or give more information.

Have another close look at the variable speed drive manual as it sounds like you have not set the parameters correctly for the motor you are using (hence the slower speed).

Both answers you have been given are correct. Eliminate the OL's since you can set all parameters for the motor on the drive. You need to read the manual and program it to the way in which you want it to operate and according to the motor name plate data. What would be a bit more helpful to help you, is give us the info on the drive. Some manuals were written by, (excuse me CR4 engineers here) engineers that should not have been given the task of writing manuals. I say this as I have read manuals written by engineers in their launguage that means nothing to anyone outside "their" box. I have worked with engineers that had their own language other than the rest of us. Star Trek fans, what memories of those days.

So stay on board and let us know what we can do to help you out.

The answer from #1 is correct.

Adding: If you are new in the usage of Inverters, there are parameters that limits the maximum and minimum frequencies delivered by the inverter. Also, you can protect the motor by setting the parameter limiting the maximun current to the motor. Therefore, read and understant the user manual. You can get help from an electrical engineer to explain any parameter that you do not understand its use.

You could let the Chickens out once in awhile to eat grass seed,Free Range,

they become larger and better Breeds.

you will need to change the settings on inverter, hp, there will be a setting saying 20hz, put it to 50, also check youre wiring on motor, is it star or delta, many thanks
