I have a 12 KW generator with a 24 Hp. LP fired engine. What is the smallest tank size that I can use in gallons.

I don't know the proper formulas, etc. but I'm guessing your going to have to provide more information to get a meaningful answer. Such as; how much LP gas does the gen set use for a given load, and how long do you want to be able to run it on one "tank" of fuel?

Here is an excellent reference for you:

Here it is, the generator make shouldn't matter, the numbers will be roughly the same.

I'm with tdesmit. Until we know how long the "tank" is supposed to last, the answer would be 1.

Since it is a emergency Generator no one know how long a power outage could be. I would think that if I could get 48 hours it would do. It does run once a week for 10 min. I'm more concerned about the draw so I do not get freezing. In the book it says that it needs 240000 BTU. I figure that I need around 2.6 gals per hour. I'm not sure about the draw down on the tank. I'm thinking that I may need around a 100 gal tank?? That 2.6 gals is at full load.

My book says 24HP consumes 122256 btu over 48 hours.

It can be as small as you like, provided you don't mind filling it up frequently.
