Beta-Blocking Traumatic Memories

Psychiatrists from Cornell University are conducting research to determine whether beta-blockers can be used to eradicate traumatic memories in people who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Previous studies have shown that rats who have learned to fear a tone followed by an electric shock lose that fear if propanolol is administered after the tone starts.

Sounds too much like "Eternal Sunshine on a Spotless Mind" for me. I think that our experiences define us, for good or bad. I guess this is more of an ethical concern for me then a scientific question.
