Stern Tube Oil

Just want to no that I am visiting a place were stern tube oil is not available what substitute I can use plz reply

Something that is bio-degradable and mixes with water but has a viscosity equivalent to 30-50 weight motor oil.

I guess, in an emergency, even petroleum based lubricants could be used.

I'm not sure, but I think that during the war years, when oil was not available, they used Tallow .

As an apprentice I used tallow for hole cutting and conduit threading. Later I learnt HV cable jointing I used it as flux for wiping the lead joints and keeping the "mole skin" supple.

Very useful stuff, I still have a lump of it in my tool chest
