What type of metal? It makes a big difference as to the nature of the bond achieved. What surface area is involved. Is it going to be a permanent bond? Will it have to maintain the load for a long time? Will it be cyclical loading? All these factors count.

Can you cast a coupling into the rubber piece? And then use a mechanical means to join the two pieces? Just a thought. The application will give you the solution.

In the automotive industry,what you need is a Phosphate Operation, to coat the metal with something for the primer and adheisve to bond to. The next step is the curing process that is done with various molds at various temps. After the item cools to room/air temp.is when you can obtain a true P.S.I. reading.

From my limited experience I would say make up test samples and set up a weight to test all under the same conditions. You can try rubber cement (contact adhesive) Follow the instructions- thin layer on both surfaces, air dry for one or two min. bond with pressure...

Super glue (Cyanoacrylate)

Q-bond. or....

vulconizing the rubber onto the metal.

And lastly try polyurethane adhesive

I am sure there is other adhesives that will do fine, but to my knowledge these are the ones that I will test. Good luck...

i agree with using contact cement- it's awsome stuff. just a note, though: rubber cement and contact adhesive are not the same thing. rubber cement is in the category of contact adhesives, but is not as strong as products marketed specifically labled contact cement.

In my country it is the same stuff... Sorry, I stand corrected then... I am referring to the strong solvent based stuff you use to fix shoe soles, stick sanding paper to a disc or fix ruber to rubber (puncture fixing)

You want to look for Thixotropic adhesive. Don't use Evostick.

What type of process are you talking about ? If it is for the suspension units for the Auto Industry,I`m interested.
