A study on the mechanical strength of condoms during actual use is needed.

Find some willing participants, come up with some good scientific tests, lots of data, measure everything, quantify the results, pubish in scientific journals.

Buy a 12 volt refrigerator from backwoods solar or similar solar products vendor. Google DC powered refrigerator, etc.

http://www.backwoodssolar.com/

Glue rigid insulation on the outside to increase the R-value. Locate a solar panel in the sun, and wire the refrigerator to run until the temp inside is as cold as acceptable but not freezing. See how long it takes for the temp to rise to an unacceptable level. Then add another layer of insulation and do it over. How much insulation is required to keep the temperature acceptably cool over night while the sun isn't shining? Mount the solar panel on a pole, and manually rotate it a couple of times per day to keep it facing the sun. All you need is couple of u-brackets bolted to a wall with a steel pipe stuck in it, extending above the roof with the panel mounted above the roof. Do the bolt calcs as part of the project.

The goal here is to come up with a design for a refrigerator that will run on sunlight only - and not require battery power during the night. If such a refrigerator is available it would make "off-grid" living cheaper because battery storage of electricity would not be required or would be reduced to a less expensive level.

You can achieve this by putting polyethylene bottles containing brine in the freezer section and using a clock, or battery voltage sensor, to turn it off at night.

Buy a couple of max min thermometers to monitor the temperatures. Make your brine so it just goes through change of state at a few degrees warmer than the freezer cold setting. Squish and cap the bottles so there is room for expansion on freezing.

Avoid opening the fridge when not powered.

Can I have my PhD now?

Are you an undergrad student or in masters degree or even at a higher level?
