Auto Transformer Panel

02/07/2011 3:54 AM

Hi, we appear to have an issue with extermely high temperatures on certain fixings of a 3.3kv auto transformer enclosure (some of the panel cover bolts glowing red). This transformer is used to start a 1.7 MVA synchronous induction motor, and is only in circuit for 30 seconds. This looks like either an issue with stray currents or earthing, although the earth looks and tests fine. Does anybody have any simillar experiences, or any notion of what might be causing this problem?

If the fixing bolts are suffering from eddy currents, you can try replacing them with non-magnetic stainless steel bolts.

Is this a new installation? If yes look for areas that could as Kvsridhar suggests be suffering from eddy currents. If it isn't new has any work been done on it recently?
