The Brake Booster and Brake master cylinder are two different though allied components.

The brake booster is attached to the firewall, the brake master cylinder is attached to the brake booster.

The brake booster is fed vacuum from the inlet manifold to amplify the pressure exerted by the driver when he/she presses the brake pedal. That force is then used to push the pistons inside the brake master cylinder to push the hydraulic brake fluid out to the Brake calipers (being a modern Volvo you have 4 wheel disc brakes, each with a caliper to hold the brake pads) to effect braking. Note: I have deliberately ignored describing the ABS (Antilock Brake System)part of the brake system for clarity sake.

If there is a service recall on the brake master cylinder I would certainly go to my nearest Volvo dealer and get it done.

If your question is related to getting compensation for work done to the brake system prior to the recall notice, then you may have half a chance except you have left it a bit late to pursue. That of course depends on the relevant local consumer laws and regulations in effect where you live.
