CTs on a Double Bus Section

02/09/2011 11:42 AM

What can cause a CT to fail especially on your one phase on an open bus section? Can it be insulation? And since the bus coupler is open how does it affect your CT's Thank you

Most bus-section CB's don't have CT's so this must be a special case. What voltage is it at? Insulation break down on low / medium voltage is unusual, I think in 35 years I've only seen one and that was due to carelessness by a tradesman.

In 11KV side we had a 100/5A CT to an over current relay setting of 6.5 which means CB trips at 6.5A but CT is rated for 5A only in secondary.

Resulting insulation breakdown. It was an old kind of CT 40years old 30cm^3 size.

Then the relay settings were adjusted to optimum.
