AC Line Voltage Turned On By Low Battery Monitoring

02/14/2011 1:03 PM

I have numerous power supplies which need 2 hr run times on the batteries periodically. However there is not an automatic switch over to line voltage once the battery cutoff voltage is reached. I would like something in line with the ac cord which would also monitor the batteries' voltage and return the ps to ac input once a low battery cutoff voltage is reached. The unit has a built in timer on battery usage so I would know upon a return visit if the batteries made the two hour run time. Thanks Gene

More info please.. these power supplies are DC or AC?

I guess you have an invertor or is the supply required DC only?

Why do you need to run on batteries for 2hrs? could it be to discharge and then re-charge?

What is the cycle time/duration of this activity, that is, how often do you run on batteries.

Is this industrial use or for home?

Using batteries as standby power is costly to own & maintain; then why you want to kill them early? for what benefit?

Cannot help without knowing battery voltage [minimum to on-charge maximum], mains voltage/frequency and mains current to be switched. Also, since battery voltage will recover when mains is back, the undervolt relay will reset - needing additional self-holding relay to keep mains back on. Also helpful to know brands of electric control gear you can get locally, rather than suggest something you cannot get!
