Do you get any error messages (either on the computer or on the camera)? If so, tell us what they are.

One thing you might try is trying a different cable (on the chance that it is bad) or try a different computer system, ideally with a very different transfer program / operating system (e.g., Linux instead of Windows)--sometimes there are timeouts built into the transfer program (or operating system), and they may be very different in another OS.

(Linux is capable of connecting to (and transferring files to/from) many cameras, even though the camera manufacturer may not advertise (or even be aware) of that fact. Often this is by connecting the camera to the computer system and then "mounting" the camera like a disk. You may need some help from someone who uses Linux.)

Not enough info to help.

What error message do you get?

How do you know the failure is due to the cable?

Are you using the file transfer software provided by Canon for that model camera?

Have you looked at the Canon website for help?

Does your pc have an SD card reader? If not you can buy for next to nothing and usually heaps faster and easier than usb to cam connection.

Had similar problem with my HP camera transferring large files. Just pulled SD card and used a reader and it works fine that way on a somewhat old XP machine.

you might also try to remove the memory card & transfer directly from that

Is your PC "man enough" to accept the data at the rate it is being sent? Or is an older machine with a load of applications? What OS and what level?

Do you have lots of applications being loaded at power on time?

Have you looked at the task manager processes, the CPU should generally run with 99% idle.....less is not good.....

There are so many different possible problems that could cause this.

Even a downlevel firmware on the camera could be the problem. Is it at the top level?

If you live in the UK go to £land / US $ama and buy a usb pen/SD card adapter to put your SD card from the camera and plug the pen to your PC.

Try different PCs, sometimes the USB drivers are a bit messed up on some PCs and do not allow for long USB connection loads, etc. How long ago have you reformated your PC ?

Does the Camera have enough battery for this operation ? can you leave it pluged to the mains if possible or do this with a full battery ?
