Looking for a "Super" Wax.

02/16/2011 2:09 AM

At work so not logged in.

Anyways, have a 'new' ride. Work second shift. Bug population going home equates sometimes to a 'snowstorm' in intensity. Getting a nose bra but need a great wax for the mirrors, door pillars and roof leading edge. Would of course do the entire rig.

Unit is a Mountaineer. So any advice is appreciated.

Maybe. Never tried it, but it sounds good.

I have never seen or heard of that product, but I have used Corrosion X, and Corrosion x HD for years. They are both excellent products that do as promised.

We have a similar issue with our airplane wings in early spring. Product we use is quick and simple, Lemon Spray wax for furniture. Cleans and protects as advertised.

Every "nose bra" that I have seen does a great job of destroying the paint job under it!

Get a bug deflector rather than a bra.

I've had OZICOZI Stoneguard (or similar) http://www.ozicozi.com.au/surfacetech/ on my vehicles for ~8 years and swear by it. There'd have to be something similar in your home market. The OZICOZI people gave me Plexus cleaner http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/plexus.html to maintain the Stoneguard - not sure how it goes with wax though, so I just wax it these days.

Carnauba wax products can be excellent and they vary in percentage of pure carnauba wax with price and performance reflecting the content from ~$20 up to $8,416 refer http://www.zymol.com/royale.aspx. While the Royale Glaze is a brilliant product, I understand that adherence to recommended procedures is critical due to its finished hardness. I suspect that you might decide upon one of the cheaper products though.

Lower cost alternatives are Johnson's Paste Wax and Mother's Gold.

Pure carnuba wax is about the hardest that is commonly available. One of the labs in Detroit that evaluates wax performance for the auto industry was also running some tests for the Army that I had to observe back in the 1980s. Talking to the test engineers about their experiences revealed that pure carnuba outperformed everything else.

Thank you very much for the info. Much appreciated. Now I have some choices I can pursue.

The deal with the nose bra is the bug carcasses are a bear cat to clean off the huge bumper these units have. As far as beating up the paint, had an '03 GM ran a bra for 4 yrs and no issues with it. Deer totaled the car out hence the UTE.

3M makes a great , clear plastic film for auto use. Easy to apply and replaceable after it gets too torn up, Try a high end auto detailing shop or auto parts store. You may also want to check into a good silicone wax/spray. Bugs won't stick to silicone and will be easier to clean off.

I have just purchased a roll of the clear film last month. If you are interested in this, let me know. I got it from the NAPA chain. I can send you 3M part # for different size rolls.

This story might shed some light on a solution:

Years ago when service station's attendants would pump gas, wipe your windshields and check the oil...

A driver, who drove on weekends to his cottage, found that bugs would get stuck on his car, and being an engineer, found a foolproof, cost-effective solution.

The gas attendant, as he found that there was a greasy stuff on the hood, inquired,

A: "What's this stuff?"

D: " Vaseline."

A: "What's the matter, you got a tight garage?"

_____

Good luck with the Vaseline.

Cheers

Vince

Rejex is the best. Period

I have tested many products. Bugs hose off and the shine is incredible!

REJEX

I buy it online or at ACE hardware, 17 buck$

Nothing else beats it for application or ease of removal. Wipes effortlessly off with a terry towel and leaves a brilliant shine. Absolutely amazing stuff. Lasts a long time too here in the Florida sun.
