API 650 Tank Primary Wind Girder Section Modulus

02/16/2011 4:40 AM

Dear Members,

I have a formula as per API 650 Cl, 5.9.7.6 (Primary wind girder section modulus):

Z = ((D2 x H1)/17) x (V/190) 2

Where; Z = Section modulus = cm3

D = Tank diameter = 30m

H1 = Tank height =16m

V = equivalent wind velocity = 181 kph

Z = ((m2 x m)/17) x (kph/kph) 2 = m3

After Calculate I got Z = 768.7 m3.

The problem is how to convert it to 768.7 cm3.

Could anyone advice us regarding this matter.

Thank you.

To convert m3 to cm3 you multiply by 106 (=1003). But I don't think the formula is saying you need Z = 768 m3. There's something wrong if it is. It probably means the result is in cm3. It's still a big member e.g. a 381mm x 102mm RSC has Zxx 782 cm3.

Cheers..........Codey
