Fault Level Evaluation of 11kV Network

02/20/2011 11:01 PM

Hello..

Can anyone please guide me on how to calculate the three phase fault level at each bus, while still maintaining power flow to substations A and B without overloading the feeders? For example, case 1: X0, Y0 are open, all other circuit breakers are closed.

Thank you very much!!

Assumptions: CB X0, Y0 are open and all other CBs are closed.

Impedance offered to 132X bus by system = Base MVA/Fault level

= 100/2700 = 0.037pu

Impedance offered to 132Y bus by system =0.056pu

impedance of T1 to base value = Tx. impedance*base MVA/Tx. MVA

= 0.267pu

impedance of T2 to base value =0.267pu

impedance of T3 to base value= 0.222pu

impedance of T4 to base value =0.222pu

impedance of line XA1 to base value = imp. in ohms *Base MVA/line KV^2

= 1.134pu

impedance of line XA2 to base value =1.134pu

impedance of line YB1 to base value =0.235pu

impedance of line YB2 to base value =0.235pu

impedance of line AB4 to base value =0.471pu

On the occurance of a fault on bus 11B1 - 11B2, the effective impedance =0.23pu (draw the single line diagram and estimate the equivalent impedance)

Fault level on 11B1 / 11B2 = base MVA/effective impedance upto the bus

= 434.53MVA, 22807 Amps.

On the occurance of a fault on bus 11A1 - 11A2, the effective impedance =0.373 pu (draw the single line diagram and estimate the equivalent impedance)

Fault level on 11A1 / 11A2 = base MVA/effective impedance upto the bus

= 268.13 MVA, 14073 Amps.

Effective impedance on 11X1 = 0.258pu (this needs delta to star conversion and series parallel combination of impedance, in the single line diagram)

Fault level on 11X1 = 387.44MVA, 20335 Amps.

Same fault level on 11X2.

Effective impedance on 11Y1 = 0.205pu (this needs delta to star conversion and series parallel combination of impedance, in the single line diagram)

Fault level on 11Y1 = 488.48MVA, 25638 Amps.

Same fault level on 11Y2.

I checked these values with ETAP demo vesion and obtained more close results.
