Yes and there are many forums online relating to the thousands of people who do it.

Thats where you can find all the information you need about how to go about producing whatever Bio based alternative fuel you wish to make.

Making ethanol will probably require a license or permit, depending on where you are located. The equipment is not complicated but there are some hazards involved in distillation especially at the scale required for quantities to use as fuel, so get the design right and have the production setup checked by your fire department or other competent folks.

Afaik, the penalty for getting caught with a still (unlicensed) in Canada is 50 grand. Could be an expensive way to make fuel...

Go to www.journeytoforever.org for information on how to make biodiesel plants, and on how to go through the process. Lots of good information. Most of the information pertains to making biodiesel on a small scale from used cooking oil.

Definately is possible, you can even make it out of vegetable oil and probably he cheapest.

But depending on what the use is you may have to pay tax or duty on it. i know it is illegal to use bio fuel (Red Diesel) for cars in UK unless you have paid duty on it. if caught could face hefty fine and car impoundment. most places consider this a criminal act of tax evasion ;)

Like i said depends what you want to do with it.
