How Do I Decide My Power/Current/Voltage Input

03/01/2011 3:58 PM

Here's my setup.
I have a project, where I am using a 12 volt fan with 200mA of current and 2,4W of power. I am also using 15 LEDs lights, 5 red, 5 green and 5 yellow.
Seeing as I am complete novice at electronics, I need help deciding on what resistor strength and size batteries I need to use? I presume 8 1.5V AA batteries are required to power the fan, however this only gives me around 5 hours of battery life. Thanks for all your help.

You don't get anything for nothing. Even neglecting the LEDs, if you want longer life, you'll need to go to larger (higher ampere-hour, or Ahr) batteries, or use a mains power supply.

join the yahoo 12 volt dc power power group. Steve Spence or Nando can design or answer any questions you may have with a 12 volt application.

Do you have to use batteries?

Are the LEDs all lit independently, or do they come on together or in groups?

A power supply from a scrap PC is your best source of a 12V supply.
