Commercial Codes for GFI outlets in Texas

04/04/2007 12:05 PM

Does anyone know where I can find the commercial codes for GFI outlets in a wet area?

Specifically, how far away from a wet area does a non GFI outlet need to be?

Texas in June of 2005 accepted the 2005 NEC (national Eletrical Code) as its basic code. Look to section 680-1 through 680-71 for more information. ****

**** this is the latest update on Texas that I found.

Also be sure to define your "wet area" since there are very different requirements depending on the type of wet area.

I'm just guessing but I would imagine that your local fire station would be able to help you with this information. They may want to hook you up with an inspector for your wiring job though (not necessarily a bad thing).

Look at NEC 2005 210.8(B), 590.6, and in the index under "Ground-fault circuit interrupters". Hope this helps.

I suggest you contact the municipal building department in the area you wish to work.
