Problems with Windows IE 7, Rev 2

04/04/2007 3:13 PM

Can you explain to me why it is that when I click on links and other items where a new window should come up it so often does not do so. I have been having an increasing amount of reliability problems of late with CR4. I run Windows IE7 rev2.

NOT FOR GENERAL RELEASE. Are your servers up to the job? It can be very very very slow at times.

Hi

Can you give me an example of a link that doesn't work for you? Is it repeatable?

Thanks
- Mark

I use both IE7 (until recently... IE6 before) and Firefox and both work very well.

I get occasional locking up problems on cr4 . I wondered if it was my own fault , because of the way I navigate ( clicking a tab on the rhs , when I could use the backspace arrow at the top ) . So far my solution is just to sign out/in again if the wait is seemingly endless.

My PC is reasonable spec , and I don't run anything in the background . Also I do all the routine maintenance. So far I have only browsed with ie7 running xp home . My connection is 1MB cable (I think !) with the ever morphing NTL/Telewest/Virgin. Hopefully an answer may appear here , else I'll try firefox (which I already have , but just haven't got round to playing with yet ) .

Using the back-key would not refresh the page, as otherwise.

Good point , though I generally toggle back to my subscribed discussions via the RHS link . I wander if the time lock ups I get are down to the notoriously bad UK broadband speed (?). Perhaps I'm just too impatient (I don't think this delay is related to clicking on actively busy threads) . Next time I log on , I'll do so via Firefox if I remember and see if there's a difference. My setup is very like Brainwaves , but he doesn't mention this problem (I think he is UK too) which puzzles me.

The main problem with upload and download times is you can never tell where along the length of the chain, the snag is. It might be your IP server traffic, in one of his subcontract routers, in the target IP servers, or in the target app (the site mechanism).

Each of these, may give off the same symptoms, leaving you in the dark, so to speak.

...just too impatient...

Being the guy with the shortest fuses affordable, let me share that doing something else in concurrence, is usually a good remedy for impatience .

I am always trying to juggle several things at once , which is probably to the detriment of my handling any at all. All females will say that only they can multi-task , which is probably true if it entails simultaneous nag/moan/demand . - sorry to any listening , I'm only joking . Hey , I joked ,typed ,and thought at the same time ! I'm getting there .

It has occurred to me though , that If I run my standby computer whilst here I could be using those 'wait-minutes' more constructively. You may have found a solution to my impatient moments Yuval . It will certainly cut down my coffee consumption.

...females will say that only they can multi-task...

This is an urban legend, quickly picked up by both sexes, to keep intact the existing status-quo: She does everything, while you scratch whatever's available for the moment.

She doesn't want you to mind her business anyway, using another urban legend to suggest males are idiots/incapable of completing any task etc..

This latent educational fixation start at early childhood: Women run the world, men are there, only to support and procreate.

I have had various problems in CR4 with IE and windows since I started even though I have upgraded both my computer and windows. To get a cursor in the message box I must copy the URL then open another IE and paste the URL into it. I don't have to do this if I start the computer in Linux and use Firefox. On my latest discussion, part of my message came out in bold and in a larger text and could not be changed. I had to reboot my computer and use Linux with Firefox to get it in right.

Typical MS problems. I guess they want to make XP look stupid so as to promote Vista. I won't have the new rubbish the old is bad enough. I tried a flavour of Linux but it did not inspire me. My connection is through the now Virgin cable and supposed to be 4 Mb down load. I have a home built machine running XP SP2 at 2.2Ghz.
