Pulse Laser Diode Distance Meter With TDC GP2

03/12/2011 7:00 AM

I am working for R&D in China total station plant. Does anyone have experience using ACAM TDC GP2 for time of flight measurement of pulse laser diode to measure distance? There is not much literature available on the internet. Does somebody know where to find?

Since you are in the R&D, well i guess you have to figure it out. The basic of quantum mechanics and/or physics(optics) were already written in the books. All you need is just a plenty of imagination and perspiration. Now that's what I can call you the right someone in the R&D.

Well thanks for your advice. It is not so much about physics, optics as I have designed several in now production distance meters. It is more about getting faster measuring speed and accuracy as well as longer range to natural targets. All these requirements are not so easy as we have to keep pulse laser output in save range. So I am looking for new ideas how to improve as for example using APD Array rather than single APD.

I don't know if you can find someone who is willing to share here, those ideas worth millions $. Might as well revise the approach of your question to catch a big fish on the field.

That was not the answer I am looking for. These ideas are not so secret as you think as there are many applications available. Anyhow I have colleges from overseas laboratories as well as suppliers supporting me. I only would like to have others valuable input for it.

I insist, if it was not secret why not able to google some literature on it in the first place. It's just better figure out if you look through equations.

This is improving the capacity of your TS> that's the idea there. If you are not looking for important info, why not your supplier tells you the info.

Well good luck then.

I would attempt to use a high resolution optical scope like the Tektronix CSA8000 with appropriate optical plug-ins. You could use prisms on the sending and receiving end to sample the transmitted and received light pulses respectively. The CSA8000 can resolve distances to femtosecond resolution!
