Definitions of MSEB on the Web:

  • Maharashtra State Electricity Board (or MSEB) is a state-owned electricity regulation board operating within the state of Maharashtra in India. The MSEB was formed on June 20, 1960 under Section 5 of the Electricity (Supply) Act, 1948. ...

While a possible acronyn interpretation, maybe it is not... I read the OP and see:

"MSEB 4 prob use for doing UT" MSEB-4 probe, for use in Ultrasonic Testing

"MSEB is abbrevation of what ???"

"and y we write 4 with MSEB." ...and why do we write 4 with MSEB?

If I put this all together, MSEB-4 may be a model number of a specific UT probe.

Please realize this in nothing but a WAG and I reserve the right to be wrong.

Your guess (and interpretive skills) is likely better than mine!

It is a Krautkramer probe (most likely).

Krautkramer designations are

SEB - TR probe - double transducer - Which I hope you know is used for near to surface defects.

M - Miniature (ie small probe)

4 - 4Mhz Frequency

A quick Blackle search reveals you are very likely correct.

I honestly do not understand why someone would post a response from behind the AP cloak. There is no sense giving you a GA now, you won't get it. Ah, I'll do it anyway, they don't cost me anything.

With 100+ on GAs i sincerely feel I don't need more.

Anyway it was always my advocacy that the GAs are like highlights we do on textbooks/ notes - the pointers to the vital few.

It should never be for the poster - it must be for the OPs and the others that read the thread.

For quite some times I have been the guest (UD15 I used to call myself) but now with the change in the CR4 policy of not allowing guests, I am forced to log in.

I still insist it is for worse - you can not generalise a few abusive guests for all and shut the door on them. I don't know whether CR4 simply wants to increase number of members - look at the number of members who have posted less than five over their tenure and it will be 80-90% of whole.

Look at the negative angle. The answer that I had given would have been known to almost all NDT professionals (after all Krautkramer is the one in UT like magnaflus in MPI). But then the Guest would not have bothered to create his account just to answer some one's question.

When I have to ask a question I might be forced to create an account after all it is my necessity (and keep the account dead after the question is answered to my satisfaction or not- in between I may have a few posts in questions/answers/ clarifications and then I disppear into thin air). Look at the posters like this. Simply click on show all members and then sort on number of posts. Look how many pages lapse before the number of posts climb to more than 5.

can you force one to create an account to answer to some one? It may be free, it may be easy, but still it is an additional effort and then one does not know (ehen one has not been a member of it) whether unsolicited mails or offers or something like that will start poring in.

In fact (not of course from CR4 or a few other sites like ASQ etc) but I myself some times recieve some mails (and for that source of my address would be unknown). Which ranges form a few millon$ jackpot win (of course hoax) to job offer (another fraud) to others (BTW that includes Viagra special sales too ). Now should I really take the risk and jump into unknown? After all even secure sites are hackable and I don't think CR4 will be that secure.

I have digressed into my defence of guests, which unfortunately I like to be still, unless forced and I know it is not useful since after all the voice of loud few always win. All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others. And the board has already made up its mind.

Though why does it contradict itself I am not aware. one of teh CR4 rules say about no politics. then why the Libya threads still active?

"I still insist it is for worse - you can not generalise a few abusive guests for all and shut the door on them." I believe there were a number of members who desired, for whatever the reason, to stir some trouble within a thread or take a jab at someone. Simply log out, enter the site again and make your wiseacre comment as a guest. This will not leave a footprint, thus no retribution from admin. This new policy will put an end to that particular issue.

"...look at the number of members who have posted less than five over their tenure and it will be 80-90% of whole." this is something I have wondered about... there are many members, as you say, who joined in 2005 and have zero or one post. I suppose if keeping inactive members on the roles does not adversely affect the operation of the site then it does not matter. It is certainly an issue for Admin.

Thanks for the discussion. Doorman
