i am (piping designer) working at a chem plant. i have been creating TML drawings for the plant's new additions. i am given a line list that someone (code specialist) has indicated which catagory the system is assigned.

1) catagory I lines have been designated my the plant safety panel. visual inspection every year. UT is a must for a base line and two follow up inspection every year. UT criteria : every change in direction (CID), every 10 linear feet of pipe, dead legs, injection points, starting and end of systems.

2) catagory II lines. visual inspection every year. UT is a must for a base line and two follow up inspection every two years. UT criteria : every other CID, first and last CID, every 50 linear feet of pipe, dead legs, injection points, starting and end of systems.

3) catagory III lines. visual inspection every two years. UT is a must for a base line and two follow up inspection every two years. UT criteria : every fourth CID, every 100 linear feet of pipe after the first CID, injection points, all systems must have two TML points.

4) cat IV, V, X have no TML points.

i have found that the CAT III lines are not hard and fast to their rule. i have a TML coordinator (an experienced tech) review my drawings and determine, in the field, the accessibillity of the points.

the techs tell me a line designation indicates a scan will be at the 4 quadrants.

CID will be 4 quadrants upstream, downstream and 4 at the vertex. total = 12.

injection points will be 4 quadrants upstream and the 3 remaning quadrants at the intersection. total = 7
