Solenoid Help

03/20/2011 8:04 PM

Hi, Im creating a stamping device and im really struggling to find a solenoid for my product. Im looking for a 12v linear push action solenoid which has a stroke of 10-15mm. The solenoid would be used to move the stamp head an mark the documents, therefore i need it to have enough force to move the 75g head and mark the paper. Any help would be much appreciated as ive been searchin for ages and can't find one that doesn't require bulk buying.

This is the version i have at the moment but it isnt powerful enough:

How about this (from the same supplier)?:

Or something from Farnell?

Don't think you're looking hard enough .

(You do realize that you can mechanically limit the stroke, I hope?).

Have you tried going to your local auto parts store ?

Think retrofit kit for door locks and trunk releases.

If you have access to machine tools you could modify the mounting of a large car starter motor solenoid. Say from a big block Chevy. It will draw a lot of current and need a good ( truck or forklift ) battery, with an overnight charge. If you are doing a lot of stamping think air instead of electric. A small air cylinder will operate at a fast cycle for a lot longer, due to less heat ( at the cylinder end ). i.e. the heat will be at the compressor, possibly outside.

The air cylinder can be actuated by a solenoid pilot valve to give you the same sort of control system.
