Members with the most postings

03/22/2011 9:00 AM

I had some time to kill and thought it would be interesting to see which members have contributed the most postings.

I limited the members to those with over 1000 postings on the day I checked the statistics.

I apologize for any typos I made.

Here is a list of members who haven't posted in the last month. I apologize to those that are still active but had reasons not to visit in the last month.

Wow. I agree, a LOT of time on your hands!

This link will provide the same information regarding number of posts in real time.

For the sake of statistics it would be interesting to compute how many comments made every one per day from start of membership up today (to last active presence) as average. I think the order would be different.

An interesting idea, I'll play along.

At this writing 2,223 posts, member for 712 days. 3.12 posts/day.

Yeesh! Is Doorman ever a motormouth!

Have you deducted the weekends or do you sacrifice them for CR4 support ?

I counted the calendar days, but I usually give CR4 the weekends off.

If I deducted the 204 weekend days, a few holidays, etc... wow, then I would REALLY look like a bucketmouth!

That got me curious.

For our esteemed poster, Del the cat, 12,871 posts. 1420 days.

That works out to about 9 posts per day.

I didn't notice Guest's name on the list. His post numbers must be up near the top.

Re: Members with the most postings

I see that my rate of posting (don't know if this includes my speaking of precision blog here on CR4 count) is about 2.5 per day.

That is interesting, but fact is that my participation rate is down now that I have more on my plate at work than I can say grace over.

While I enjoy providing answers, the fact is that many of the questions lately are such that anyone with access to Mr. Google can provide a "close enough answer." but these often lack depth of understanding or nuances of fact that may be relevant.

If participation was strictly a numbers game, I would have packed it in a long time ago- Why try to beat that Cat from Engls land? He does way more cool stuff any how.

I do not remember when the good answer tracking began, but I'll bet that I had been on here for 2 or three years before that was added. The good answers I rec'd early on seemed to match up well to my expectations in satisfying the question. Then The GA thing seemed t become political as was mentioned on another recent thread, My GA count has been stuck at 216 for a couple of months now I think. I don't think The quality of my answers has deteriorated, though my frequency of posting has decreased. THE GA's to me reflect more about the process here than they seem to reflect about the actual answers.

I like the good answers, but I really LOVE THE THOUGHTFUL QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS ON MY BLOG POSTS. At the end of the day, for me it's really about knowing that I made a difference in providing some useful bit of information that kept people safer or made them more efficient, or saved them some money, or made stupidity go away by forcing some dimwad to look at the facts and data.

This community is evolving, and I am happy to still have a contributing role in it , even if I'm Not "Top Ten" Material by the methodology currently available for ranking.

But the private emails I get with Steel, machining, or technical problems to help with tell me I make a lot of peoples short list.

Back to work for Me.

Milo

Hello Milo,

You are on my short list.

I put a little weight into good answers. It used to and maybe even still does indicate a dept of knowledge on the subject being answered. I notice that some posters show expertise on a subject and are consistently sharp with their 'good answers'.

The shotgun approach of other posters with a smattering of knowledge on, any and every subject that you can mention, is reflected in their lack of good answers.

A major flaw in the good answer system is that 'almost good answers' should be tallied and shown alongside the tally of good answers.

If a top ten 'good answer' poster answers or sounds off on a subject that I raise, I feel that I can trust their opinion. I respect that they have taken the time and effort to give a thoughtful response.

Unfortunately there are time constraints on most posters and their expertise would be nice to access when you have a question within their scope of knowledge.

If very specific questions could be directed to experts of that specific subject it would be cool.

For instance, you Milo, if I had a material science question or Chrisg288 for industrial design and Del for many subjects especially 'Bows' and a long list of others that I have mentally noted are heavy weights on specific subjects-- rogerpink on math calcs.

For general discussion on any topic, this is where this forum comes alive and I love being a part of it even if I don't have an expert knowledge I can add to the flavor of the topic. There are side shows that spin off the main topic. If you happen on one of these discussions, you can see how passionate and opinionated we all become. Just look at the amount of replies to an interesting subject and it should pique you interest. I laugh that the subject of 'bath breaking technique' never really goes away.

It is also great to see the amount of common sense answers from people who are not experts on the particular topic and do not purport to be. Their opinions can be chewed on and you get a sense of their knowledge and wisdom derived from some engineering field.

Anyway, better stop rambling.
