Metal Casting

03/24/2011 11:29 AM

I am searching for a simple method to introduce metal casting in a High School shop environment.

Any suggestions, pointers or direction will be appreciated.

Lindsay publications is the best source for small scale casting technologies... you can learn the basics of green sand and lost wax casting on a small scale, plus he is totally aware that schools are on a very tight budget.

Dave Gingery is my hero! He builds lathes and casting equipment from wrecked cars and duff engines.... He likes small stuff...backyard foundries and so forth. Sounds PERFECT for you.

Check out Dave and Vince Gingery's book shelf and let us know what you think!

Not sure where your located, but try contacting the American Foundry-Mens Society. They are located in the Chicago IL. area and have quite a library of information. They also might be able to get you in contact with some of the supply houses that have No-Bake Chemicals etc. to use in your teachings.

Good-Luck, I love the fact that your trying to teach a dying art in your classes. Let us know how it turns out. Sorry I can't do more for you.

You can take the foundry men out of a foundry but you can't ever take the foundry out or the foundry-men
