Seek Info: Ultrasonic Thickness Gage-Print Live Data on Pen Strip Chart Recorder

03/31/2011 10:21 AM

Hello,

My employer has asked me to research products and find an engineer or company that can help us get answers on how to set up a process.

This process is using an ultrasonic thickness measuring gage, that will measure continuously live A-Scan waveform data of wall thicknesses and be able to print out that continuous live waveform data onto a single pen strip chart recorder. My employer has used this process for many years, years ago with his deep hole drilling machines that drill small holes into long metal parts. He wants to keep the process Basic but with today's products and digital, we are finding it diffucult to get answers on how to do this process or make it work.

We are finding that the digital to analog issues between the two products non-compatible and might need a converter of some sort or electrical rewiring.

Laurel electronics sell a Serial to Analog DIN rail transmitter, LTS6, that might work but no one seems to know if the three products will work together just by connecting them up.

Does anyone know if these three products would work together or how to set up the two products and make them work together?

I'd search "ultrasonic thickness testing equipment" and send your question to them.

You might also check used test equipment. Strip chart recorders are old technology, as I'm sure you know.

And, there's always equipment rental companies that would allow you to sample different types of recorders.
