Sub Base Compaction

For GSB (Granular Sub Base) compaction with vibratory Roller - weather the vibration to be applied on both the direction or forward direction only? some one says if the vibration applied in both ways the inter locking property not meet the requirement. Which one should be followed?

you must do vibration in both direction better tat one direction
