"Hekatron" Fire Fiting System Control Panels

04/05/2011 8:48 AM

At our terminal we have HX340 fire alarm system, manufactured by "Hekatron" company during 1996-1997. The system consists of BMZ 340, 345 control panels. How I'm informed this system is obsolete and there is no spare parts to perform necessary repairs. The main company "Hekatron" is servicing this system no more.
Now we are considering two options: one - to change existing BMZ panels with new up to date ones (the easiest way), another - to leave the system as it is, this way will be some problems finding necessary spare parts.
My questions would be:
1.Is it possible to operate HX340 system for another 10-15 years, by finding necessary parts?
2.What would be possible substitute for "Hekatron" system spare parts? (If this is at all possible)

Have you contacted the "Hekatron" engineers to see what they recommend for a compatible replacement system?

Have you contacted "Hekatron" resale reps to see if they have any existing inventory?

Have you contacted other fire suppression manufacturers to see if they have systems that are compatible with your "Hekatron" supervisory, digital, and/or analog field devices?

These my be places to start looking as you will probably get better advice than you will here.

Hekatron still manufactures a line of BMZ series panels. I recommend you contact them for information regarding using their new line. Most manufacturers when designing new equipment try and maintain "backward compatibility", meaning your field devices may work with the new panels.

This is do-able with PLC equivalent, its just that it has to be UL /FM approved that made this product distinct.. Oh yah know business as usual

Hi Vilius,

1.) The spare parts for HX340 Systems are very very limited. An availibilty of further 10-15 years can't be guaranted. The prodution of this system is actually stopped since arround 8-10 years

2.) BUT => It's possible to modernize the HX340 panels by its substitue system called SecuriFire from the company Securiton AG in Switzerland (Hekatron and Securiton they both belong to the Swiss Securitas Group but Securiton is responsible for all the business outside of Germany). The big advantage you just have to replace the control panel. It's not necessary to touch or replace the detector loops with its participants. However in case a detector have to be replaced for any reason, they are able to offer you a compatible new detector called MMD 140 or MMD 150 (depending to the technology you have on your HX340 System. These detectors you can just install onto the existing loop without changing anything at the programming or by re-wiring the loop (except the replacement of the socket). Also extensions are possible but in this case the corresponding modification by the programming-software COR03 have to be done accordingly.

I seriously recommend you to contact Securiton AG in Switzerland through their webpage (www.secuiton.com). I am pretty sure they are able to help you with your problem.
