PVC raw material

04/08/2007 11:36 PM

Does anyone know a good source for raw PVC to be used in the extrusion of PVC product. I am curious to know pricing per ton in the US vs China. Also are there different grades of PVC for extrusion use? I am new to this field and am trying to get up to speed.

PVC comes in many grades, colors and fillings. Dies must also be made for each type, so a heavily filled PVC needs a different die design than a pure PVC. The filler effects the strength as well as the cost.

Chinese resin is cheaper, has higher freight and lower quality and often has a customs duty on it.

Aurizon, Thanks for your input. I am new to the field of PVC and was not aware that there are different PVC's. I was under the impression that PVC was a basic material and you were able to add CaC to it or possible wood fillers, etc. But, I think you are saying there are different types of PVC. Could you advise me as to what the differences are? I appreciate your input. RStanley. From Aurizon: PVC comes in many grades, colors and fillings. Dies must also be made for each type, so a heavily filled PVC needs a different die design than a pure PVC. The filler effects the strength as well as the cost. Chinese resin is cheaper, has higher freight and lower quality and often has a customs duty on it.

it is much more lucrative to ship recyled plastic(ABS,HDPE etc.) into china than to sell virgin.
