Wireless Communication

04/06/2011 6:10 PM

Dear All,

I am interested in doing a project in wirelesscommunication. Please provide ideas on antenna design, software designed radios, smart antennas, propagation models, etc. Anything will help in wireless communication will suffice. Thanks

Have you had a look on CR4 and the internet first, plenty of discussions and general information are available, any one of your requested design areas will produce manny, many results.

Do you have anything specific you want to do (or try and do). Even a broad concept would help narrow things down a bit.

My opinion is that this is still homework.

You might look for some homework forums or other cheat sites on the web.

Your request is FAR TOO BROAD to be taken seriously.

We can't cut your head open and pour knowledge into your brain.

See if one of your friends will let you borrow their LynDoor™ Industries Wirelesscommunicationprojectideagenerator Mark VI. This miraculous device will provide ideas on antenna design, software designed radios, smart antennas, propagation models, etc.

I am sort of surprised you do not have one of these already.

Just give me alist of question

That is what we are asking you. An internet search of your broad question produced over 630 million results!

Do you have anything specific you want to learn. Even a broad concept would help narrow things down a bit. Come on, some of us are trying here but what you appear to be asking is effectively what YOU should be doing - searching the internet to get a basic understanding of wireless communication.

As Lyn says, this is not a homework cheat site, but in your case you seem to want to treat CR4 as your own personal University. Come on, that is unrealistic. Many of us are professional engineers and do not have the time or patience to explain everything to someone who appears to want to just take shortcuts. If we explain our own in depth experiences and knowledge relating to wireless communications would you even know what we are talking about? What about just the basics - they can easily be found with a simple internet search. In both cases it wastes both of our time.

A little personal research on your part using the internet and learning from the information given in previous CR4 threads relating to wireless communication would go a long way. Please start there first.

Jack - Was asked on more than one occasion why I wasn't teaching at University.

Thanks a lot. I feel I've got a buddy here. So, for starters: Smart antennas. What do you say?

I don't think you understand. You, obviously, know nothing about the subject at hand, yet you want us to furnish you with a pre-packaged project outline and then fill in the blanks.

Do you know anything about the subject? Can you define any antenna terms? Do you have any knowledge at all of the subject.

Just give us a little indication if you have the capacity to learn any more than you already know? What do you already know?

Here's a little on "smart antennas".

Smart antenna - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is where you should start. Then if you can form some intelligent questions, after learning the rudiments of antenna technology someone, MAY choose to help you.

If you really want to learn about antennas, I have posted a site that you really must visit.

American Radio Relay League | Ham Radio Association and Resources

I still think you want instant knowledge infusion. It just doesn't work that way.

What purpose is the wireless comms for?

Frequency? Mobile/Fixed? Data/Voice? etc etc

We can provide anything that will help but it will be too broad, too much and space would be limited - you need to be more specific.

Thanks a lot for all these. I like the responses. Now smart antenna: how to achieve dynamic spectrum usage (hardware design and not the software part of it), ie. "intelligent" antenna to transmit/receive on diffferent frequency.

Thanks

Because we are awaiting for you to reply to the questions which have been asked to identify the task to be solved.

Almost all have said your description of your problem is too broad.

I suggest you work through the responses from top to bottom and post a response to each and every question which has been asked - one by one. Only then will we have a clue about your need.

You have to put in a little effort. You also need to show you are capable of putting in a little effort.

Sorry about that. Well the idea is to build a smart antenna. The options are hard ware design or software side, with particular attention to muti-function optimization techniques: treatment of different parameters (frequency occupancy and co-operation schemes, loss, interferece factors) in co-operative/non-cooperative frequency allocation.

Well it has been a couple of weeks, what progress have you made on the project yourself. Do you have specific questions or request for comment on specific ideas you are working on.

Jack of (most) Trades - Smart Antennas are not really my area.

Re: Wireless Communication

I have had no personal experience with smart antenna (arrays), but an internet search of the subject produced over 1.8 million results (including general information and presentations). Even "smart antenna dynamic spectrum usage" produced over 50,000 results.

The subject is still to broad to answer other than to say "have a look on the internet and then come back with specific questions".

Those here that may have in depth personal experiences with smart antenna design are likely put off by your "wide net" approach of "tell me the basics I can simply find myself on the internet". It just comes across as either very lazy or homework (which may not be the case here, but that is how it could be perceived).

Just saying.

It seemed to me from the start the OP wants topic headings and subheadings, not actual information.

It seems to be a popular thesis/project topic at a number of institutions, sometimes related to Matlab, Labview.

This may be a lead to obtain some answers to your questions, www.ansoft.com/adf_uk/smart_ant6a.pdf
