400kV Cable Installation

04/07/2011 9:59 AM

I am a power engg and we have an issue on cable installation of 400kV cables. earlier we thought to do it by directly burying in the ground. but due to temperature rise in cable under full load condition we are not able to do this. now, we have an option of installing the cables on cable trays in cable trenches. can anyone suggest the way to do this. codes or some standards. if sm1 can provide us with drawings of a pre-commissioned installation wd be of great help.

A cable can be laid by any method (viz.)

Directly buried under ground

On trays installed within concrete trenchs

On trays installed above ground in open air

- The current rating of the cable will vary depending upon the method of laying.
