Prefume or Cologne

04/08/2011 8:50 PM

I was at the dentist office today and while waiting I was thumbing through a magazine and as usual my nose started running, eyes burning do to those perfume/cologne peel and sniff ads attached inside.

This one scent was designed to emit the essence, innocent, and purity of a woman. Sorry did catch the name, I was a slobbering mess, and had to get rid of it. My point is this stuff didn't small nothing like what they were trying to get me to image in my mind's eye. This stuff smelled like something my friend Baba would slap on before heading out to his favorite pub hoping to get lucky.

Who comes up with this stuff? Who says this scent is design for men or women?

So many question so little time

Pretty much all perfume/cologne affects me that way if it's too strong. I don't wear cologne ever. I don't mind perfume on a woman, if they know how to apply it, which to me is a tiny dab or two that is barely noticeable. Maybe they just need to include application instructions. It seems most people think that if their scent can't be noticed for 20 ft in all directions, they don't have enough on.

I don't care for elevators because they're an enclosed battle of the smells. I almost always end up with tears in my eyes and a snotty, runny nose by the time I escape.

The worse is a stuffy board room, that includes a salesman and cheap cologne.....and a lot of it.

For a year my wife listen to me whine about a woman in a cubical next to mine bathing in perfume. I was so miserable I was going through a box of tissues a day. It was so bad I finally started using industrial straight paper towels.

My wife would complain why I just didn't confront her about. Like what am I suppose to say;" hey lady @#$%!" I convinced myself she had a medical condition that she was trying to cover up.

Luckily enough I was able escape to my lab. She finally moved on and my conscious is clean.

Not to sound insensitive, but if it was a medical condition, it may have smelled much worse than the perfume.

Fortunately, I've never worked much around other people.

What was bad, was being in the Navy and living in cramped quarters........we'd hit port and the freaking stench of cologne was so bad you could almost cut it with a knife. Drove me crazy.

Most people's sense of smell acclimatizes very fast. That is a good thing, since we all smell. (Just ask a dog).

Unfortunately, the woman with cheap perfume acclimatizes to her own scent, so lathers on more of the stuff so she can sniff herself. When you walk into her space it is initially overpowering.

Now, if you have an allergic reaction, you don't acclimatize but become sensitized. Your eyes water, you stuff up, you get the urge to eliminate the source of the scent.

Part of the problem is that people repeatedly use the same scent and become desensitized to it so they tend to use it more heavily as time goes on. One lady that lived in my apartment complex used so much perfume that you could smell it in the parking lot thirty minutes after she had driven off.

My wife wanted me to find out what she was wearing. Ever see that movie Total Recall when Arnold Schwarzenegger's helmet cracks and his face started to bloat. That was I when I got 20 feet away from her. It was some powerful stuff.

I am very fortunate that my wife is conservative when it comes to perfumes and cosmetics for that matter. She doesn't need it. But in the same token she has the ability to implode my face.

I heard a line somewhere in a movey - "I like cheap perfume, it doesn't last as long but is more intense".

Then there was the knock off perfume. Was supposed to smell like roses, but at a convention with a lot of women wearing it, as it started to break down apparently it smelled skunky.

As a dog, I'd just like to say;

"thankfully, most of this is over my head".

What is there not to get, other than I miss spelled "perfume" in the title.

I try to correct it in my last post but it only work for that post.

'This one scent was designed to emit the essence, innocent, and purity of a woman.'

Is this because you're victim of being a chemical nerd pheromone "poindextrose" that attracts bullies? See: The Simpsons episode no. 264.

Best part of the episode, IMHO, was when Lisa is on stage, trying to present her hypothesis to a 'learned(?) audience of scientific peers', when a google-eyed male stands, turns and shouts to his peers, " Don't pay attention to her. She's a girl!"

And The Beat Goes On.
