Synchronization of Alternator

04/10/2011 11:49 PM

What are the points we should take care of while synchronising an alternator first time to the system? How should we check those points?

Must have the same:

1. Phase sequence

2. Frequency and voltage

Not only that point but in protection, panel should complete with:

1. Over load and over current protection

2. Reverse power protection

Hope this little help you

The MOST important is to check that the voltage is 0 between the alternator and the bus you are going to synchronize it to on ALL 3 PHASES when your scope [or lights] say the alternator is OK to put on line. Biggest mistake is wiring and/or rotation, if it's wrong it will show voltage between the bus. Measure the voltage at the breaker that will put it on line, top to bottom, and all three phases.
