How to Nullify Cookies

04/11/2011 6:28 PM

Tired of cookies tracking your every move? Here is a simple way to make cookies worthless:

Copy your cookie files, and exchange them with someone else, perhaps on another continent, or another state.

If everyone did this, cookies would no longer have a value, and maybe they would become extinct.

Any comments on this idea?

I know how to delete them, and block them, but they will alter their names by one digit and come back again. It is a daily struggle.Every time I exit the internet, I use C Cleaner, and there are always more to delete.Simply going to Google and exiting will create a cookie.

Sometimes I edit the cookies and insert garbage, or cut and paste from a different cookie, (just to muddy the water), and leave the cookies on my computer to be retrieved.

When you go to a website, look at the bottom tool bar, at all of the cookies being placed, and the delay it causes in loading your page.

There are also FLASH cookies that are not normally deleted by standard cookie management software.Even following the procedures in Adobe flash Global editor does not always work.

My aim is to make them useless for tracking purposes.

When you go to a website, look at the bottom tool bar, at all of the cookies being placed, and the delay it causes in loading your page.

But you also write

Sometimes I edit the cookies and insert garbage, or cut and paste from a different cookie, (just to muddy the water), and leave the cookies on my computer to be retrieved.

Surely the delay is small compared to your potential solution.

Are you sure you are not going just a bit too far for what is effectively attempting to avoid (potential) directed marketing (or CIA tracking). What exactly are you afraid will happen?

It just seems a like the internet equivalent of the tin foil hat.

A little paranoia is a healthy attribute.I am from the old school, where the motto was

" Everybody's business is Nobody's business."

I am not conducting any criminal activity in my home,or elsewhere, but I don't want cameras in my house connected to some anonymous information data bank.

What if someone was following you every time you left the house?

Or wrote down everything you purchased at the store?

Would you live in a glass house, in a busy city?

See my point?

It is easy to boil a frog if you slowly raise the temperature. And so it is with privacy.Lose a little here, a little there,in a generation or two, privacy will just be a quaint memory of some 80-something old timer talking about the good old days.

By the way, tin hats are way too expensive nowadays.

Aluminum foil works pretty well as long as you keep the dilithium crystals cool and do not suffer any leaks in the Jeffry tubes.

Gotta go, I must adjust my rabbit ears, reception is fading.

You could try using a simpler internet browser program that allows you to remove/block/disable cookies entirely (just do not expect your browsing experience to be smooth sailing and trouble free). Cut down freeware browsers should be available for download.

More complicated and feature-ridden browsers can be difficult to completely customise as there is still a lot in the background that is fully automated for the users convenience.

Perhaps switch to a Mac.

Get 'windows washer'?

Either way your a 'virgin' on session start.

(but not if you stay 'logged in' to CR4, or google, or some other site)
