Gamma Rays and Solar Generators Question

04/13/2011 1:04 PM

question,.. as to gamma rays making a solar generator inopperatve,....this EMP (electromagnetic pulse) that kills electrons ,..if..enriched plutonium is released into the atmosphere by way of a small scud missiles,...selling for as cheep as 100,000 these days,..in the hands of all the wrong people it seems,..if this electromagnetic blanket is used as a weapon of war ,..as John Hagee's book 'will America suvive' states is a possability ,..this electromagnetic blanket will stop every form of electricity instantly,...how does gamma rays effect a solar generator is my question,.....please send the answer to that question if at all possable,.many thanks,,,,,,,Ann

Relax...

For some information about how an EMP will affect the storage portion of your solar generator, see this Wikipedia stub.

I see Charlie Sheen has joined you in your concern:

hay thank you for the link,...i don;t know if i can understand whats writen as to the subject,...its a new concept i have no knowledge of,...i just want to buy a generator as a back up sytem,..with zero fuel usage,...solar generator was my answer to that,...but,..and theres always that BUT ,...lol ,... as we all know,...what about the gamma rays rendering it inopperative,...i probably need a yes or no answer to that from someonethats more knowlegable than i,...i will read this info you linked me with ,..after it prints out here and try to get the answer from there ,...but,..if not....a yes or no would be helpfull,...no gamma rays verse solar generator books for dummys in the stores yet,.lol........sorry for being off topic,...i was shooting in the dark when i came accross your web sight,..didn't even know ...what was up,...just typed in my question and hoped for the best,..you got to remember I'm a female,..and do not claim to ,...know more than i do,....lol.....as for charle sheen...good looken...good actor,...cool show,...to bad he had to think he was " ALL THAT" ,.and screw everything up for himself,...a lot more humility is what he needs,...on his plate and these situations he keeps putting himself in,..by acting out,... will surly do that,.........lol.........Ann

Well, let me see. A yes or no answer, eh?

In your original post, the question (I think) was ",...how does gamma rays effect a solar generator is my question,....."

Is there some reason you are focused on gamma radiation? This 'blanket' you mentioned is better described (I guess) as the Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) I linked to before. A sufficiently powerful EMP will damage electronic devices, to the extent they will no longer function.

My response rambles a little bit... my head is still spinning after reading your latest comment, and reading again your OP.

Re: Gamma Rays and Solar Generators Question

I'm confused about what you are asking. A scud missile doesn't normally carry a nuclear warhead. If you are talking about someone "poisoning" a conventional warhead with plutonium in order to spread poisonous plutonium in the atmosphere (i.e., a dirty conventional bomb), that will not create an EMP.

So there are two different possible scenarios you are asking about--are you asking about an EMP from a nuclear warhead or poisoning by plutonium scattered in the atmosphere from a dirty bomb / warhead?

The poisoning by plutonium will not make your solar generator inoperative.

The EMP might, but again, what kind of solar generator are you talking about. An array of solar cells will probably be disabled by an EMP. If you have an actual rotating generator driven by a steam turbine (or similar) powered by heat from mirrors aiming the sun at solar collectors, there is a good chance the EMP won't effect that either (if there are no (semiconductor) diodes in the generator (i.e., if it is an AC alternator)).

Of course, in either case (a nuclear warhead or a dirty conventional bomb), the bigger question is: will you be around to make use of the solar generator?
