Entry Level Instrumentation Technican Employment

04/13/2011 1:19 PM

Good afternoon everyone! My name is Bryson Marshall, I'm 20 years old and currently reside in Nova Scotia. I have completed two years at NSCC in Industrial Instrumentation and Controls. It was an amazing program. I feel fortunate for the quality of instruction I had there. My instructors were and are a few of the most knowledgeable men in the field who I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. This trade has become a passion of mine and I can not wait to break into the field. My diploma gives me the equivalence of a second period apprentice, hopefully that will take me somewhere soon. I'm now on the hunt for an entry level position as an Instrument tech. in any industry. I've been reading threads on the site for a few months now, and this is my first post. Not so much a contribution as it is a "Hello", but thanks for reading.

Welcome Bryson!

CR4 can be a load of fun, and a great place to debate/discuss and learn, as well as maybe share a tidbit of knowledge from time to time. I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your career!

Would you be willing to relocate to some other place in the world?

Thanks guys.

In my opinion, you MUST be willing to relocate if you want to find the right job for you -especially in my situation, with no prior industry experience under an employer. (Unless you already have a solid connection to an employer or you get lucky of course)

As a matter of fact, I actually included a list of short and long term goals in my portfolio, describing how I would enjoy a career abroad. Working in a foreign country would be exciting for me.

Welcome.

One approach, which works well here, is to register with agencies in this field that may have access to non-advertised vacancies. Build up a network of contacts. When the 'phone rings, have a bag packed ready!

Interesting idea. That would work well for me in my situation; I'm not tied down by anything right now.

Are there any agencies you would recommend starting with?
