Magnesium AZ61

04/19/2011 11:30 PM

I am gathering material for a project, but finding very high pricing on AZ61 magnesium. I'm in Fl. Is there a reasonable source for mag. I need plate 6"by 6". Up to one eighth inch thick. Point me in the right direction. Thanks- infree1943

try these searches. As for price, even if the metal was free, and supplier would charge a premium for cutting a special size. find out how the material is used and in what common thicknesses and you may be able to find a local aircraft fabber with small bits.

What is the application?

Remember that magnesium has a low yield point. Small slim parts are easily deformed when handled. there are some excellent light weight and very stiff alloys out there. But alas they are expensive.

Good luck.

I appreciate you response gents. I have seen 1 ton rolls for $3000. It just seems out of sight paying 400 to 500+ for a small handful. I do thank you. I'll check an aviation firm or two. Greatful to you Marty
