Hi,

The only time I would use Ghost to restore would be if the PC was identical, like if the harddrive had failed and it was replaced. With yours it is a different brand, a different configuration, and likely different drivers are required to suit. The best way is to install the applications from the install discs/software and set up as a replacement. I have used ghost in the past and it works great for setting up multiple identical PC's or recovering from a harddrive failure.

Tooz.

The biggest issue you may have is the image will have drivers for hardware that is not on the back up computer. It may be easier just to copy what software you need from the one to the other.

Not real familiar with Norton's Ghost as I use Acronis. Have some of the same issues with production equipment. Not only have I made images pending hard disc failure. I have also copied the software the OEM of the equipment placed on the PC. Into folder with the image. Along with a back up file that will have settings and any parameter data that runs the machine.

If you are really concerned about a back up. Just get a replacement hard drive which are cheap. Image it and store it or leave it in the PC unplugged. If it's real critical to operation set up a RAID.

Insist on support for your legal & registered software, you are entitled to support, don't take no for an answer

I have never had any problem getting the software from the OEM of the equipment.

If an image of the hard disc is taken of the software uncorrupted whats the issue. You have a copy. That is also one reason that I made copies of the software in the folder with the image.

Some of the software is free. It is provided by the manufacture of the hardware. When the hardware is upgraded by the manufacture sometimes the old software becomes obsolete. Over a period of time the old software is no longer supported. Since the software was free they have no obligation to support it.

Now it becomes the OEM job to try to support it. The high cost is this service.

If it's licenced software that was issued for the equipment then to store back up copies for future repairs is not a problem. It's being used on the same piece of equipment.
