how do we design casting tolerance and design specifications for castings?

By knowing what the material characteristics are regarding shrinkage and deformation after initial casting.

Highly skilled and something of a black art.

1. talk with engineers from companies that make the castings

2. use a search engine and type in metal casting design.

3. look at existing drawings in your company of castings. They should contain the info that you need.

Here investment casting tolerances, investment casting specifications is a general guide.

You should really consider doing the basic research yourself, so that you will retain some of the knowledge you bump up against. It's called learning.

Having someone else do your work for you will only get you in trouble, and will certainly not gain you any respect from your peers.

There is the technical library where you can find the data you need. The technical universities have them.

Of course after going through the theory you still have to actually conduct casting tests.
