ETAP's Capability

04/27/2011 8:43 AM

Hi guys, this is a doubt that i could not get clarified thru ETAP's manuals.

during the MOTOR STARTING ANALYSIS, can we view the currents/voltages at the terminals of other running loads if one of the motor is started using the time slider ?? Usually we only see the current and voltage drop at that particular motor alone using time slider. Is my requirement achievable using ETAP ??

I have 4 nos . of identical 132kV/6.6kV transformer each sourced individually from the power grid that i have modeled..The loads are connected downstream to the transformer. each of the transformer is connected to a 6.6kV bus with bus -tie bet. each of the 4 buses. the buses are having their own IM and synchronous motor loads.

My aim is to start one 6400HP synchronous motor connected to the load and see what the voltage drop is like and whether is it possible to start using only 2 transformers. i m able to view the results. but the other requirement for me is as started in the beginning .. is it possible to see the effect of this motor starting on the other connected motors/loads at the same time ?

thanks in advance

cheers!

siddharth

The simple answer is yes. You can view the voltages on any other bus (or node) using the time slider. I don't have access to ETAP at the moment and I can't remember exactly how to do it, but I'm pretty sure you can select the buses of interest when you bring up the graphical report (showing voltage and time).

As Juleselec already mentioned you can see the bus voltages during the motor starting. You can create a dummy bus at each motor terminal and select the motor terminal buses to see the graphical representation of the other motor terminal voltages during the motor starting.

See these tutorials:

Dynamic Starting: http://etap.com/training/tutorials/12_Motor%20Starting%20Dynamic/12%20-%20Motor%20Starting%20(Dynamic).html (watch at 8:20 to see how to select bus voltage plot)

Static Starting: http://etap.com/training/tutorials/13_Motor%20Starting%20Static/13%20-%20Motor%20Starting%20(Static).html (watch at 8:01 to see how to select bus voltage plot)

thanks a lot guys. jus goin thru the manuals again along with the video. However, i have found out that we can know the value at the other loads/buses at the instant some motor is started and at the end of the simulation.. i m jus trying to see if the effect on the other motors/buses is recorded for the entire time of simulation apart from the initial and stabilized conditions.

can see a lot of light at the end of tunnel with ur responses :)

cheers
