Aren't they the same, so long as the concentration is correct?

It didn't sulfate! Hydrochloric acid would form lead chloride on the surface of the plates.

Mutiatic acid is another name for hydrochloric acid (HCl).

Lead-acid batteries use suphuric acid (H2SO4).

The answer is No.

No you can't.

A. it will it not work

B. it will create lead chloride, which is a soluble form of lead, easily absorbed biologically. Link

So what you need to do is take this toxic time bomb, to properly skilled recyclers and tell them what has been done so they may dispose of it accordingly.

To just throw in the trash, could end up poisoning 1000's of innocents.
