Selecting Standard I-beam

05/09/2011 6:38 AM

I have done calculations for selecting standard I-beam and am doubting the results I got. May I ask for procedure for selecting the standard I-beam please. The I-beam is to operate as a cantilever.

More info is needed, or get a copy of one of the engineering formula books on the market. There you find all of the information needed to properly size beams.

For a cantilever, it is not simple, lateral torsional buckling will probably control, simply checking the bending stress is not sufficient. You may find info on lateral torsional buckling on the web.
