Signal Booster for Cellphone

05/10/2011 9:59 PM

Hi guys I am using internet in my cellphone with unlimited internet plan(GPRS) and connected it to my PC with a USB cable so i can use it. Its done for cheap internet access. But i am facing this problem of low signal strength or less tower. I heard Nokia makes its phone with best antenna. I just want a simple solution for boosting the operator(Airtel FM) signal in my home.

Well for a system like this you could just move the cellphone for optimum reception. Some cell phones have slightly better reception than others, but it doesn't make a huge difference. Cellphone repeater stations have been discussed here on CR4 but they are most likely going to be too expensive, and generally you cannot enhance the existing cellphone aerial. Someone here may know of a product that may work well in (India?)

Have you considered a PC card or GPRS modem instead buying a cellphone, they may have better reception (or remotely mounted antennas)

Increase its height above sea level.

Wilson Electronics make several booster/amplifier units that should work for you. If your signal is VERY low, consider using a Yagi antenna.

Is very useful for me but is it possible to solder a repeater circuit?

gprs-modem is still expensive and risky as never known anybody using nearby.

ofcourse i kept it above sea level already(good guess ).

Wilson Electronics is alien for me but let me know if at all any soldering works for me.

Let me see if I can help you out:

Cellphone network works by powers. Nokia has a good antenna which is not your problem. Base station (a big antenna somewhere not close to you) decide the powers you phone should work base in the power received by your cell phone at the distance you are and bla-bla-bla.

A booster wireless antenna is your options to go. It will increase the signal straight from Base Station and change the performance of your phone.

I use it ones. We were making some software test for mobile phones close to a base station with no problem. We have to move to a big building due to company got bigger but far from base station and... problems start to show up. Internet started to get slow. Our downloads from mobile servers start to take ages. So we decide to boost the signal and problem solved.

I bought one wireless booster for 2 level and one for first level.

I am sure it will help you. It is expensive but will help you.
