Aluminum Jacket Installation

05/12/2011 7:16 AM

Someone who have experienced to install aluminum jacket along with outside pressure vessel or heat exchanger?

The purchase specification of the aluminum jacket is Aluminum 6061 with a zero temper(T0). So my concern is that so difficult to procure the material in the whole world market. Also, I have never experienced to make a design of installing the aluminum jacket. Please help me better understand how to install the aluminum jacket in the field.

Experienced person can help me I believe . your detail advice would be really appreciated ..

Thank you all.

I am assuming that the aluminum jacket is going over insulation that will go over the pressure vessel or heat exchanger.

If this is the case, is it possible for you to hire a contractor to do this work?

They not only already have the tools and equipment but they have the experience also which may save you time and money in the long run.

The grade of aluminium is less important than the temper. 6061 has been specified for it's anti-corrosion properties.

There should be a steel ring firmly attached low down to the outside diameter of the vessel to prevent the insulation from slipping downwards, and some studs protruding from the base to hold the underneath insulation in place. The vessel is usually clad with sheets of rock wool held on by thin steel wire while the cladding is applied.

The aluminium comes sheets that are sized to make them easy to handle. The actual size will be determined by how much the area around your vessel is congested with pipe, steel work and walkways. These are temporarily strapped outside the insulation and while they are drilled and riveted together to form a complete skin. Use aluminium rivets to avoid dissimilar metals creating corrosion. The soft aluminium will bend easily to any radius and can be cut with tin snips to accommodate pipe stabbings and thermocouple/level sensor entries. I presume the pipes attached to the vessel will also be lagged and clad. This is where the flexibility of aluminium scores as the radii are much smaller.

I agree with KJK, this is a job for an experienced lagging contractor, using one will be quicker, neater, and cheaper than doing it in house.

it's kinda complicated to do, i would suggest that you need to hire a professional because they are the only one who knows the job. just like what i did when i got problems with my car, i always go to http://www.whipstreet.co.uk, and they are very good in dealing with cars. ;)
