How are you going to implement automatic braking systems in pedestrians?

I don't know how it could be installed but it would make them better targets - hate to chase them all over the road to get a score!

Automatic breaking system - sure - give up all control of the car to the computer. Thanks but no thanks and I don't want them on the same road as I drive.

You mean the video that shows a stupid twit walking in the rain with an umbrella while chatting on the phone and walking in front of a guy drinking and out driving his vision for the conditions plus other distractions?

Hard to fix stupid - people just come up with something even more dumb to do.

A major problem today is that there are too many nanny controls like this for everything from baby cribs to god knows what all. People have to take responsibility for their own actions - not have some bunch of jerkoffs come up with a way to prevent stupid.

Some years ahead (maybe 20 - maybe more) possibly a working system like this may be practical - no problem as in 20 years I will be history.

I don't necessarily like this concept. If the driver is too distracted to hit the brakes, they are probably going to be scared as hell when their car slams on the brakes all of a sudden.

These are probably the drivers who swerve to avoid something and bring everyone around them to their side of misfortune, like swerving to miss a cat and hitting a school bus. It happens.

We at GM years ago actually worked on the start up idea of just such a system. We worked on the idea for almost a month and came up with the conclusion that it would be cheaper just to run the pedestrian down and let the insurance pay for it. The projected cost of such a system would be 1.5k USD per car. The cost of sending each and every person walking a sensor to be worn while walking would be 3.7 billion dollars. I guess teaching the pedestrian public how to walk and pay attention might be cheaper. How would you get anyone to sign up to a course that implied that they were to stupid to avoid getting run down by a car???? Sundog
